The Florida Department of Children and Families Partnership Plan was developed on the foundational principle of QPI: all children need and deserve excellent parenting. An expectation of excellent parenting is to provide a loving, ongoing commitment to children to ensure that children are given the opportunity to develop healthy, stable relationships within a family, and to only consider placement moves of children when necessary for the safety and wellbeing of a child. Join Carol Edwards as she facilitates a discussion with a panel of experts (a case manager, foster parent and a youth) to explore the importance of stable placements for children and explore how unnecessary placement moves are harmful to children. As a participant, you can expect to learn about the following: What considerations and actions need to be taken to make the first placement the best placement? What is needed from agency staff and case managers to support caregivers in their commitment to providing stable placements for children? When is it appropriate to seek a new placement for a child? How do multiple, unnecessary placements cause harm to children? We look forward to you viewing this training as we continue to learn more about how best to work together in ensuring excellent parenting by supporting stable placements for children. (1 hour)
The Florida Partnership Plan calls for caregivers and agency staff to partner together to assist birth parents in improving their ability to care for and protect their children, and further provides that partners will act in a supportive and respectful manner that allows children to maintain ties to their family. Successful coparenting requires a partnership with agency staff, caregivers and birth families. This training will answer the following questions: What are the foundational principles of coparenting? Are those principles supportive of child development and trauma sensitive practices? What are the challenges to implementing coparenting practices? What are the successes of implementing coparenting practices? What role do agency staff, caregivers, and birth parents play in successful coparenting? How can coparenting be implemented in your local QPI site? (1 hour)
